Art Journey & Artist Statement

I, Priyanka Sinha, am a visual artist from Delhi-NCR, a B.F.A. topper from Art & Crafts College, Patna, and did M.F.A from Chandigarh.

When I commenced the documentation of this journey, I started with the ‘Aspiration’ series. It was an attempt to bind that moment of my life in one place. First, I saw control, a venture by someone to make others dance like puppets according to their will. From this stemmed my work with puppets and anklet bells (ghunghroo).

The one following this was the Peace of Mind series. It carried me toward spirituality through ‘Buddha’ and the peace and balance that is associated with him. The series continued with humans and their exploration of the same which actually lies within them. The person who is full of power but who has the need to know who he is, it is an effort to interview him to his inner soul, the search for peace for which the person is wandering, this is a small effort from my side to make him familiar to the peace which lies in him.

In my series of ‘Unframed” Installations & paintings, I have tried to present my sentiments in the form of purity.  In life, we want everything as per our desires and wishes. We look for materialistic happiness and want to be in our comfort zones. We want our life, relations, events, and situations to manifest the way we desire. We want everything to happen in a particular manner, in well-defined boundaries and frames. Look at Nature, every creation of God is so abstract…so unframed. There is no pattern, no symmetry, everything looks so haphazard. Extremes of weather and calamities.. upheaval in body, mind, and spirit. Change is thy Nature….change is everywhere ..nothing is permanent.. nothing stands still in this ever-changing world and universe we humans see life from our narrow and human perspectives. Although, we want everything as per our wishes and frame. We want picture-perfect moments for all our frames. We often forget that we are human beings with a soul. Can you bind a soul? Can you put it in a frame with bindings of human thoughts? Can you always mold every relation….every human as per your views?  That folly of thoughts will unsettle and unframe you every day. It will disturb you each moment. We keep trying to mold the world to fit in our frames. We search for our ideal Mother, brother, wife, son, daughter, friend, boss, and colleague.

That’s when we get the unframed version of our ideal person but he/she behaves as per their wishes, desires, and moods. Thus, there is a constant struggle and turmoil. My paintings depict that unframed mind .. Those unframed emotions which don’t fit in our frame of the human mind and constantly remind us to look at nature and to look at the inner self to connect with the soul to find the true meaning of our existence.

In my latest series, Invisible in the Visible, I indulged deeply in the importance of things that many a time seem invisible to the naked eye. There are few ephemeral intimations that exist in our direct and indirect peripheries of seeing. These indirect and inert intimations play a central role in my works. The armature of these imperceptible intimations here obviates the skeleton of manifested confirmations.

The strong armature of my painting depicts the colour of the blood throbbing through My Veins, and working as the oxygen for my artwork. The hope which gives me the support to stand and look forward to a better time is invisible even to me.

I work with a variety of mediums, such as Painting, sculpture, installation, and printmaking photography.
Now I am working with constructive balance, and aesthetical and emotional ups and downs. All of it is an interpretation of my mind which relates to my everyday life. I always seem to be more intimate with experiments in my art and engross myself a lot in such artworks.

I also work with landscapes along with human inner growth in the abstract. I do not always work with preconceived themes or ideas because sometimes playing with colours turns out to be more appealing and more conceptual.

In all the duties of the citizens, as an artist, my duty is that I am able to illustrate the power of their own self through the medium of my canvas and colours. And also that I am able to show them their true colours of spirituality. Who says that seeing art just presents the sentiments of the particular artist, according to me the art of a true artist delineates not only feelings but also portrays the ups and downs of society.
